Phillip Peters - Executive Director

Phillip Peters is a passionate nonprofit executive based in Ballard, Seattle, WA. He has 11 years of service in nonprofit leadership, including at an affordable housing nonprofit in Washington, DC, a food justice threshold nonprofit in Seattle, and since September of 2022 as the Executive Director of Renewal Food Bank. He is a founding board member of KIP for Change, a nonprofit that aims to help at-risk individuals avoid both short-term and generational homelessness. He joined the board of Babies of Homelessness in 2022. In his down time, he enjoys volunteering with political or animal rights organizations, hosting dinner parties, going on ski trips, and avidly reading history and the news.

Crista Robertson was born and raised in Ballard and has now spent almost two decades living in Bellevue while raising her children. Trained as an Interior Designer and currently a licensed real estate broker and co-owner of Movemint Real Estate, she is passionate about her community and the people in it. Having experienced homelessness and hunger in her youth, she is happy to be able to contribute to the mission of RFB and utilize her skills and experience to help those currently in need.

Kathy D. Hoggan - Board Chair
Kathy D. Hoggan - Board Chair

Kathy Hoggan is passionate about the responsibility of a community to provide for their food insecure. She has been a volunteer with Renewal Food Bank since 2020 following a career as national and international marketing director for industrial, publishing, and high tech companies and 20+ years as a marketing director at the University of Washington. Her nonprofit involvement includes 12 years on the board of the Fair Labor Association and university representative to the Workers' Rights Consortium. She has traveled throughout the world as an active voice for the rights of factory workers. Kathy enjoys travel, reading, photography and gardening. She is the mother of two grown daughters and has resided in King County since 1965.

Dean Lester - Board Vice Chair

Originally a native of the UK, Dean Lester has lived in the US since 1993, he is married with three adult daughters and lives in Woodinville. Professionally he has covered the spectrum from small startups all the way up to leading teams of 400+ as general manager. Dean has run numerous product development teams within multiple divisions of Microsoft, Qualcomm and Niantic and has started and run at least two innovative start up companies. He brings hands-on problem solving, coaching/mentoring and organizational leadership skills and focuses on developing strategic solutions at a human, technical and business level.

Loren Ott - Board Treasurer

Loren Ott has spent all 20 years of his professional career in finance, with the majority of it in healthcare. Joining Providence in 2020 as a Senior Finance Manager, Loren provides a broad level of financial support to the organization, from managing the system’s $4.9B allocation model to leading the Shared Services Financial monthly close process. With a passion for finance, Loren enjoys bringing this excitement beyond his professional career into volunteer opportunities directly impacting the local community. Loren received his Masters of Science in Finance from Seattle University and his BS in Business Administration and Economics from Central Washington University.

Jeff Reed - Board Secretary

Jeff Reed serves as Senior Pastor of Highland Covenant Church in Bellevue, WA, the hosting facility for the Renewal Food Bank. Jeff received his DMin from Fuller Theological Seminary, his MDiv from Western Seminary, and his BA in English from Westmont College. Jeff has served churches in Washington, Oregon, and California in his 34-year career as a pastor. Jeff also serves on the board of SEARCH, a non-profit that raises awareness and support for anti-trafficking and anti-exploitation work in Myanmar. He is an avid poet and directs a small publishing company called Wind in the Reeds Press. He is married to Susan, and together they have three grown children all of whom live in the greater Portland area.

Kathy Holmgren - Board Member
Kathy Holmgren - Board Member

Kathy Holmgren is an RN/Social Worker. Her professional career spanned 40 years and included jobs as a hospital nurse, hospice nurse, parish nurse, and community health nurse. After retirement Kathy spent time volunteering at a food pantry in Green Bay, Wisconsin and later with Meals on Wheels in Cleveland, OH. She has been a volunteer at Renewal since 2014. Kathy also serves on the board of Circlewood, an organization dedicated to the “Greening of Faith” with a strong emphasis on environmental justice. Kathy’s years in healthcare and her work in the community have created a desire that everyone have access to healthy food. She is very proud of the work of Renewal Food Bank.

Marcia Hoover - Board Member
Marcia Hoover - Board Member

Marcia Hoover is a retired family and couple therapist, practicing in Redmond, WA. Her specialty was working with couples, particularly couples who dealt with a chronic illness. Marcia also taught graduate work at both Seattle Pacific and Northwest University. Marcia completed her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University in 1996, and went on a year later to complete her Clinical Psychology Ph.D. degree also from Seattle Pacific University. Her husband Rick passed away from MS complications at the age of 68. The couple were married for 46 years. In 2020, Marcia met Michael Kidd, a volunteer at the Renewal Food Bank. Marcia was introduced to the food bank on one of their early dates. In the Spring of 2021, Mike and Marcia married and together, continue as weekly volunteers. Together, the couple have fourteen grandchildren, keeping them very busy during their retirement.

Kafa Kathim - Board Member

Kafa Kathim is a Washington State licensed Cosmetologist having earned her license in 2016. Born in Iraq, Kafa came to the United States in 2004 where both of her children were born, now ages 13 and 17. Kafa has more than three degrees from Bellevue College: a phlebotomy certificate, a clinical lab assistant certificate, and an AAS-T (Associate of Applied Science) degree. She is currently studying to get her bachelor's degree in the HCML program (Healthcare Management and Leadership). She loves helping people and volunteering in the community.
